Smart Care History

  • Smart Care Equipment Solutions is the product of 140 years of varying services, name changes and acquisitions
  • Established in 1878 in San Francisco under the name Gas Consumers Associations
  • Originally formed to work on gas lamps

  • As electricity became the norm, Gas Consumers Association started working on gas ranges and eventually most gas appliances
  • Within a generation, the business had expanded to several major US cities and had become a corporation
  • In the late 1970s, the name was changed to Gas Consumer Services, commonly known as GCS

  • In 1998, Ecolab purchased GCS, which became Equipment Care
  • Ecolab added onto Equipment Care by acquiring Metro Appliance Service Inc., Stove Parts Supply Co., Commercial Parts and Service, Peterson’s Commercial Parts & Service, ARR/CRS and S&S Stove
  • Under Ecolab, all these companies came together to become a large, national commercial kitchen equipment services and parts organization
Technician and preventive maintenance

  • After doing business as Ecolab Equipment Care for 19 years, Ecolab sold the business to Audax Private Equity, a Boston, MA private equity firm
  • On November 1, 2017, Equipment Care officially separated from Ecolab and became EEC Acquisition LLC
  • Now known as Smart Care Equipment Solutions, or Smart Care for short, the company is headquartered in St. Paul, MN
